Steve Breese, once established, found Tangent a challenge just like his fore bearers. This was punctuated with the recording of a short selection of tracks under the overall title of "Don't Try to Hide". This included two very different types of musical tracks in "Raiders", a very heavy metal number with grand classical doom undertones... and "Dancer" a somewhat melancholy ballad. These very diverse songs showed Steve Breese's talent for dynamic change off to the full, something that all drummers would aspire to.
Steve in himself was a relaxed and humorous man, with the essentially similar sense of fun as the rest of the band. Trained as a professional aircraft fitter, Steve supplied ear protection for the "war zone" like rehearsals that Tangent produced between gigs.
Unfortunately very few pictures of Steve Breese with the band are available, the one shown here being a rarity.
Steve Breese joined Tangent following the departure of Steve Ebsworth. This was never going to be an easy task, as Ebsworth had such a strong presence in the band. Nonetheless, courageously Steve jumped into the "hot seat" and began stamping his own identity on the percussion section.
With some thought Steve chose not to try and fill someone else's shoes, but to make a pair of his own (so to speak). The effort paid off, and Steve won the respect of many followers, some with reluctance had to realise that Tangent had to move on. A new chapter with Steve Breese was taking shape.
