Musical influences included "Iron Maiden" and "Queen", so as with the other members, targets were set to a high plane. This seemed to be a constant with all Tangent's musicians, and Jamie's contempt for "Dross Pop" only echoed that of his peers.

Jamie was also a football fan, supporting Watford FC; like his music, he could never be accused of taking the easy option.

An upbeat and likeable member of Tangent, Jamie was quick to clown around, but when the real business of the band was at hand, Jamie was not found wanting. Definitely Tangent's most reliable bassist.

Jamie Joyce joined Tangent at a time when the original three members were still writing together. At that time an early demo had been recorded with the then drummer Bill Lucas. Jamie was found after an exhaustive search, and for a while Tangent was a complete unit.

During future changes, Jamie proved himself a loyal member of the band and that stability, helped Tangent find the longer running line ups that is so necessary for a live band. This could be said, was because he believed in the music and his role in it. But what ever the reason, Tangent were better for it.
