Greg on stage was a commanding figure thanks in part to his tall stature but also as a character ready to have fun with the audience. Like the rest of the band, Greg never took himself too seriously, and the primadonna attitudes that some stage musicians display, never were part of the equation. That said, Greg and the team maintained a disciplined approach throughout and always tried to deal with venues, studios and promoters as professionals.
Greg, like many rockers, had a interest for cars and worked as a courier around the London area. This being quite handy on occasions, but the rest of the band never knew what car he'd turn up, for a gig in. Fiercely Pro British Greg, was sometimes thought to be more English than other, more native members of Tangent. And once seen was rarely forgotten
Greg Lawson joined Tangent after a lengthy search through vocalist applicants. Greg a likeable fellow from Australia came to England specifically to search for a band. Tangent was the one that suited Greg, and a singer was found that could fill the space that the music created. Greg did on occasion write lyrics, but was on the whole, happy to sing the lyrics that Tangent had available. Nevertheless, there are always exceptions, and on the track "They'll Find You" Greg shows his interest in science fiction with a story about a prisoner with an implant tracking device. Considering its time of writing the song is somewhat prophetic... Not so much science fiction as science fact.
